The mage is the magic user. They normally lack the ability to fight effectively in close combat or to take hits, or even to avoid hits. This is because studying magic takes up incredible amounts of time and they are unable to train themselves to use weapons effectively or become physically strong enough to wear heavy armour. Therefore, they wear little more than their robes and use their magic to form shields and otherwise incapacitate their foes from afar with magical blasts. Mages can learn magic up to the third level of any element. Many however, tend to specalise in two elements and learn magic of the fith level from them.
The next level for a mage is to become a fully fledged wizard. The wizard is usually more scholarly than the mage and always more powerful. They tend to be better at conventional, spoken spells rather than the spontaneous type. These magic wielders are still weak in physical prowess but their magics can help them to enchant clothing to be resistant to piercing attacks and they can even utilise enchantments to weaken an enemy's attack or dull their blade. Their magical powers allow them to utilise magic of up to the sixth level and of any element.
The "master" levels for a mage are sorceror and blue mage. The sorceror is a terrible and incredibly powerful foe, capable of ripping the fabric of reality and using magic at it's uttermost levels. At this level they are nigh unbeatable at long range fighting, capable of blitzing their foes (often literally, with lightning) from afar. Sometimes entire armies will tremble when they hear they are to march on a particularly powerful sorceror's tower, such is their power. As is representative of their mastery of magic a sorceror can utilise magic of any level right up to the tenth, of any element.
The blue mage is a unique spellcaster. After a wizard has reached the level in which they can become a sorceror they will often be brimming with magic and feeling extremely full of themselves. The more creative and sometimes deranged ones will often choose to reduce their level to mage again, but call themselves blue mages instead. A blue mage can absorb and learn magic attacks that they are hit with. They therefore are often extremely tough to kill, being magic users whose lives involve taking heavy hits to increase their own power. They have the greatest defence of all magic users, sometimes comperable to melee specialists but their offensive powers (and magic in general) are based on what they knew as wizards and what they have been hit with. As they utilise magic they have survived being hit by they can use any level of magic and most have a high level of knowledge of the sixth level.
